Film Festival Workshops

As we celebrate Kids Video Connection Children's Film Festival 10th anniversary, we are excited to have the opportunity to reach and teach children and teens throughout metro Atlanta.  Though this annual summer festival we have reach over 5,000 youth. 

This year the festival is scheduled June 16 - 30, 2017.  Our theme is “The Magic of Edutainment.”  We have new educational and creative workshops for children, teens and independent producers interested in creating educational and entertaining children’s programs.

Kids Video Connection Children’s Film Festival kicks-off on Friday, June 16th, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Decatur Public Library. Special guest speaker, Nicole Velez, Coordinating Producer of the PBS Emmy Award-winning show, Arthur, will show children how to bring a storybook character to life. In addition, Velez and KVC staff will teach children how to create a storyboard.

Educational & Creative Workshops:

 

Learn to Develop & Pitch a Children’s Show

9:30 – 11:30 a.m.

Adults Only

Limit 25 people

 

Workshop participants will learn how to effectively develop and pitch an entertaining and educational children’s program. If you have a show…come prepared. You may be selected from the audience for a 3-minute pitch!  Presenter: Nicole Velez, Coordinating Producer of the PBS Emmy Award-winning show, Arthur.

Family Films

Ages 7+

Limit: 125

 

A collection of Short Films produced by children and teens will be showcased. The winner of the child produced program will be announced.  Also, we will have the premier of the family film, Annabelle and the Ghost of Nantucket.

Intro to Animation

Decatur Recreational Center

10:00 – 12 noon

Ages 8 – 14

Limit 16 students

 

Workshop participants will learn the basic concepts of creating animation which includes timing, staging, anticipation, storytelling, and tweening.  Through experiential learning, each student will create a flip book which exemplifies the animation process.

Intro to Special Effects Make-up

Decatur Recreational Center

10:00 – 12:00 p.m.

Ages 8 – 13

Limit 18 students

 

Workshop participants will discover what happens behind the scene to create the faces of aliens and monsters in films. Students will learn how to use two simply house-hold items to create special effects make-up.

Intro to Acting

Ages 8 – 14

Workshop participants will be introduced to the world of acting and have fun learning acting techniques through improvisation.

Teen Vision Program

2:30 – 4:00

Ages 11+

 

A collection of short films and video project produced by teens will be showcased. The winner of the Teen-produced film/video will be announced.  Also, we will have a special panel of media professionals that will share information about their careers with the teens.

In an effort to reach children from every economic background, we work to keep the cost affordable. In the past, we have received grants to help supplement production cost and to reduce the rate for schools, organizations and churches that serve under-privileged children. Please inquire about potential grant funding for your organization.
